The BB Energy Foundation launched today with the goal of transforming the lives of women and children through strategic investments in education, health, and wellbeing.

The not-for-profit foundation’s is work will be funded through an annual investment of USD 1 million from global energy trader BB Energy.

The Foundation’s goal is to make a positive impact in countries around the world with projects across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. In 2024, it will focus its efforts on Guyana, Rwanda, and South Sudan.  In these countries, the foundation will work in close partnership with not-for-profit organizations that are deeply embedded in the communities it aims to support. This approach will ensure that its grants are distributed effectively and make a meaningful difference.

“We are committed to being a positive and collaborative presence in the communities we serve,” said Perihan Bassatne, Chair of the BB Energy Foundation. “By working hand-in-hand with organizations that have deep roots in these communities, we can ensure that our support reaches those who need it most and that our efforts contribute to lasting change.”

The Foundation’s initial USD 1 million pledge will be directed towards programs that align with its goals, including initiatives that promote access to quality education, provide access to healthcare , and enhance the overall wellbeing of women and children. This funding will help address some of the most pressing challenges in these countries, such as improving educational opportunities, promoting healthcare access, and addressing the disproportionate impact of poverty and violence on women and children.

In line with the Foundation’s mission, its aim is that a minimum of 70 percent of supported organizations and projects are female-led.
